Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers help to diminish facial lines and restore volume and fullness in the face. As we age, our faces naturally lose subcutaneous fat. The facial muscles are then working closer to the skin surface, so smile lines and crow’s feet become more apparent. The facial skin also stretches a bit, adding to this loss of facial volume. Other factors that affect the facial skin include sun exposure, heredity and lifestyle.
Frequently Asked Questions
What dermal fillers can do?
- Plump thin lips
- Enhance shallow contours
- Soften facial creases and wrinkles
- Improve the appearance of recessed scars
- Reconstruct contour deformities in the face
- Decrease or remove the shadow of the lower lids
Dermal fillers can be very helpful in those with early signs of aging, or as a value-added part of facial rejuvenation surgery.
Hyaluronic Acid Fillers
Most of our fillers are made from hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a sugar found naturally in human skin. These fillers hydrate the skin in the injected area and add volume immediately. Improvements last from 6 months to 18 months, depending on the filler and area treated.
What happens after the injection procedure?
While downtime is not needed, it is important to avoid the following for the first few days:
- Strenuous activities
- Medication that thins the blood (aspirin and anti-inflammatories)
- Alcohol
- Exposure to the sun and other sources of heat, such as a sauna
Mild swelling, bruising, and redness is normal and will usually resolve after a few days. Swelling may last a little longer in the lips.
What happens during the injection procedure?
All filler treatments are administered by Dr.Zadeh himself and typically take from 10 to 30 minutes to complete. While most fillers contain an anesthetic, a separate numbing cream can be applied to the lips prior to any injections if desired. Dr. Zadeh will use a tiny needle to inject the product in the targeted areas. Sometimes, touch ups are required a few days or weeks after the procedure for optimal results.
